Technical integration in a continuous manufacturing process
Within the food industry, expanding existing process installations requires a meticulous technical approach. For an international dairy producer, a new organic lactose line was implemented for processing lactose powder into organic infant formula. TRIBE Engineering managed the technical construction and implementation of this line within a facility that remained fully operational throughout the project. The combination of powder handling, process integration, and execution under strict quality and hygiene standards made this project technically significant and organizationally challenging.
From bulk intake to drying unit
The new line is designed for unloading supplied lactose powder and pneumatically conveying it to the existing drying and mixing installation. From these units, the product is further processed into organic infant formula. The conveying system serves as the link between the unloading of the lactose powder and its further processing in the dryer and mixer. The installation features a closed design to prevent product loss and minimize the risk of contamination.
The technical challenge lay in integrating piping, support structures, and connection points within the existing infrastructure. Connections to the dryer and mixer had to be correctly integrated both mechanically and process-wise, while production continued uninterrupted. Limited space and internal logistics required a phased execution and precise coordination.
Coordinated Construction in an Operational Facility
TRIBE Engineering provided technical management and coordination for the realization of the organic lactose line. This was achieved through:
- Issuing and managing work permits
Work permits were drafted for all activities, aligned with internal procedures, food safety standards, and lifting operations within an operational production environment. - Supervising the mechanical installation
The installation of piping, support structures, and process components was executed under controlled conditions, in accordance with the design and specifications. - Integration with existing process installations
Connections to the dryer and mixer were technically assessed and aligned to ensure stable and continuous product transfer. - Phased execution without production downtime
Activities were scheduled in close coordination with production and maintenance, ensuring the facility remained fully operational. - Coordination of crane and lifting operations
To position larger installation components, several lifting operations were performed within confined spaces, with supervision of safety and correct placement.
This approach ensured a controlled construction process within a complex production environment.
Assuring process and product quality
With the addition of the organic lactose line, a controlled and closed conveyance of lactose powder to the dryer and mixer has been achieved. The system supports a stable product flow and contributes to consistent product quality in the production of organic infant formula. Simultaneously, the continuity of the existing facility was safeguarded throughout the entire execution phase.
Technical Completion
The expansion was integrated within the established quality and safety frameworks of the production site. Through structured preparation, technical supervision, and phased execution, the new line was constructed and connected to the existing installations in a controlled manner.
In this project, technical integration, close coordination, and production continuity converged during a meticulous facility expansion. The result demonstrates how TRIBE Engineering seamlessly integrates complex new installations within existing processes, without losing sight of ongoing production.
